We are in South Korea! More specifically, we are at Jeonju University for our 8-day orientation to be English teachers through the EPIK program. If you haven’t read about our decision to take this adventure over the next year, feel free to do so here.
After a brief flight to Chicago on Tuesday morning, a 13-hour flight to Seoul/Incheon and then a 3-hour bus ride from the airport, we arrived at Jeonju University on Wednesday evening. Following rumors last week of not being to keep all of our luggage in our dorm rooms and possibly not having A/C, we are now comfortably settled in our very nice, cold rooms with all our property safely behind a code-locked door.
Here begins a brief photo tour of our room and campus. Any captions will precede the photo(s) they describe.
Here’s where shoes go when entering our room. It’s customary to remove shoes when entering any home and some other more traditional public places.

As our (very small) bath towels and a number of other places on campus proclaim, Jeonju University is The Place for Superstars. This makes us feel awesome.

We were prepared for the fact that our shower would not be separate from the rest of the bathroom. Other than making the toilet seat wet, it’s really not bad at all. There’s no way either Josh or I can fit into the shower shoes provided for us, though!

Effective Microorganisms are critical to a hair-rinsing experience (and tooth-brushing, too, apparently). I actually am really liking this shampoo and conditioner.

Josh and I feel like a couple on a 1950s TV show with these separated twin beds. The mattresses are very hard but I have slept surprisingly well (thank you, jet lag).

Lots of cabinet space to unpack what we want to wear and use this week and then store our suitcases away.

The murals in the cafeteria are really sweet (Amy, I thought of you when I saw them). I may have to photograph more of them later.

A couple views of our dormitory building that don’t quite capture how tall it really is. Then the midday view from our 5th floor room.

We took a very hot campus tour. I am loving all of the new foliage (and the fact that there’s so much of it). The humidity, not so much.

A quick view of some of Jeonju’s cityscape. We’ll do a field trip to see more of it on Sunday.

Next up, the opening ceremonies, and the spoils of our first snack-buying experience!
